If you’re in need of a smoothie recipe that tastes more like an indulgent dessert than your everyday health-boosting smoothie, this recipe is for you! Think dark-chocolate covered strawberries you can drink. (That’s right!)
You’d never guess it’s packed with nutrient-rich ingredients like cacao, chia seeds, and avocado.
Remember that it’s easy for smoothies to become too high in sugar, leading to blood sugar spikes and mid-morning crashes. To avoid this, always add some type of healthy, omega 3 fat and fiber to your smoothie. In this recipe, there are 3 sources of healthy fats: chia seeds, coconut oil, and avocado (which also adds fiber!)
Adding avocado to smoothies makes them extra creamy, so this will remind you of a milkshake!
- 1.5 cups almond milk
- 1 scoop Collagen Peptides (optional, adds protein)
- 1 scoop Philosophie Cacao Magic (10x the antioxidants of green tea, more magnesium than 3 cups of broccoli, and more calcium than a glass of milk!)
- 2 handfuls of frozen strawberries
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 or 2 tablespoons organic cacao powder*
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil (I use this brand)
- 1-2 dates (or 1 teaspoon of raw honey, to your liking)
- 1/8 or up to 1/4 fresh or frozen avocado (I used 1/4 in this recipe)
- Few ice cubes
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Keep in mind there are about 15g of sugar in each date, so if you have high blood glucose levels, you might want to reduce the amount of dates.
*If you’re new to cacao, start with a small amount. It’s much more bitter than chocolate, and takes some time to get used to. The great thing about adding avocado to this smoothie is that it helps minimize the bitterness of the cacao.
Top with fresh strawberries, dark chocolate shavings, and enjoy!
